Let’s see how long this lasts.
1. We didn’t actually put together the CDs in the truck. We unbundled at a sweltering rest stop and, after berries and peanut butter, formed a loose assembly line at a picnic table.
2. When we got to the Kat Wok, the maitre d’ led us along a narrow corridor to the stained, sunken pit that serves as dance floor and stage. I thought, “This looks more like a dungeon than anywhere we’ve ever played.”
Later we had delicious pan-Asian food and watched Chris Parreira, the local folk singer who set up the show and opened for us.
We played a 100% rocking show for a place that was 98% empty. We actually had a great time, stretched out and experimented a little. The bar staff loved us, and they rounded up people to come see us, right around midnight when we were finishing up. They played our CD on the house PA while we were packing up. Chris gave us a bumper sticker.
3. On the way to the motel Dave said, “My window… it’s gone!” It wasn’t gone, it was just buried deep inside the door, and he couldn’t get it to close. I slept in the back seat overnight; the weather was balmy and the parking lot soothing, until about 4 AM when it got a little chilly. This morning Tom and Dave went to the Toyota dealership here in Medford, where they didn’t have anyone available to fix the window but lent Dave the service manual he needed to fix it himself. Thanks, Lithia Toyota Scion!
4. We have tonight off. We might hit an open mike in Portland at Albina Green or Zilla Sake, or we might catch up with our friend John Elliott of The Hereafter if we can figure out where he’s really playing.
